Yurmala’s martial arts club “Neguss” was founded in autumn 1994 with the basic specialization – karate. There were also Ushu lessons, kickboxing, full-contact karate and applicable close combat lessons for police and other armed forces (militia, security services, etc.).
Initially martial arts club “Neguss” was working as an affiliate of Riga’s “Budo” centre. Since 1997, it has chosen its style: “Yoshukai”, which has historical linkage with chitorju style. April 3rd 1999 at he International Yoshukai Seminar in Germany the club is being taken in the International Yoshukai Karate Association, whose president is M. Foster (9th Dan). At the moment martial arts club “Neguss” represents the Yoshukai karate style in Latvia.

Close and very friendly relations are with the Yoshukai representatives in Europe, the Dortmund Yoshukan in Dortmund, Germany (shihan O. Rummann, 5th Dan). For many years martial arts club “Neguss” is a competent member of the Latvian Karate-do federation. Martial arts club “Neguss” is uniting children and youth ages 5 to 18 and adults, at the moment there are ~200 members in different groups throughout the city of Yurmala. Lessons are being given in the Yurmala 1st gymnasium, Kauguri, Mezmala and Jaundubulti secondary schools, in the premises of martial arts club “Neguss”, primary schools “Taurenitis” and “Abelite”.

In the Yoshukai karate organization, those who are giving lessons are highly skilled instructors, from them E. Annuskans (black belt, 3rd Dan) and Y. Ilyin (black belt 1st Dan) were certified in the Latvian Phys-ed and Sports institute (nowadays Latvian Sports Academy), S. Lukach (black belt 1st Dan) for many years has been training Yoshukai karate in Germany, V. Radchenko is considered one of karate founders in Latvia in the late 70’s. By the way G. Buls and E. Annuskans are with the higher education in pedagogic.
